Aarr, Matey’s, Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Whether ye be a grand friend or a new friend to be, Belize River Lodge has new and important news . . . We have arranged to operate a private outpost camp on Long Caye in Central Belize. If you have fished with us before, or if you know the area, you know that Long Caye is one of the best fishing areas in Belize with a wide variety of species available – Tarpon, Snook, Bonefish and Permit, along with Tripletail, Ladyfish, Jacks, Barracuda and many others; all only 5 minutes away from BRL’s Long Caye Outpost.
If you like fishing “Long Caye” by Caye Chapel in Central Belize, then Belize River Lodge has the perfect get-away. The BRL Outpost at Long Caye sits on the front of the island overlooking Belize’s Barrier Reef and offers spectacular views of the sparking blue-green waters of the Caribbean Sea. BRL’s Outpost is less than a 10 minute boat ride from St. George’s Caye and Miami Beach and about 20 minutes from Caye Caulker.
As with fishing from the main Lodge, BRL’s guides fish long hours AND as the Outpost sits in some of Belize’s best fishing waters you have a choice of your fishing day, fish early and/or fish late. You can start off early, come back to the Island for lunch or “slack tides”, take a “siesta”, then fish late into the evening and come back to the island at the end of your fishing day. Or, you can leave after breakfast, take a packed lunch, and fish all day, then come back to the island in the late afternoon. Either choice ends after a long day of fishing, and with you watching the stunning beauty of a sunset, the oranges and reds overlapping the blue-green tones of the Caribbean Sea, while telling the tales of your day, enjoying appetizers in an extremely beautiful setting.
Before or after a day of fishing, or if you get “antsy” while on the island on your first day, or can’t get enough fishing before you leave on your last day, there are beach fishing options. Bonefish and Permit are found on a hard sand spit, right in front of the Outpost, so just walk on out and catch a few fish.
If you have a non-fishing spouse, or someone who likes to fish only a ½ day, then BRL’s Outpost is a great choice as it is on the beach, so if your “other half” likes to relax or snorkel while you fish, this is all an option. We can also “run” non-angling spouses to Caye Caulker, so that part of their day is spent exploring the village and souvenir shops. For the non-angler, any of our water tours are offered while staying on the island – Snorkeling, Manatee watching, Miami Beach and St George’s Caye, all are within easy boat distance of Belize River Lodge’s Long Caye Outpost.
The BRL Outpost is opening with three double occupancy bedrooms, two twin beds in each room; and a shared bath (hot & cold water) for all, thereby catering to groups of up to 6 people. The main building has a full verandah overlooking the beach and sea. The rooms have ceiling fans and power is from a generator which will run while you are visiting.
At the Lodge, we are very well known for our Belizean hospitality and our delicious Belizean Creole cuisine; diets are usually set aside for your visit. Our same wonderful BRL cooks will be preparing your meals at the Outpost, so a delicious variety of meals will be served daily. Please let us know of any dietary needs beforehand and we will be happy to accommodate you during your visit.
At the outpost, you will have a choice for lunch. Let your cook know and she can have a meal prepared for you when you get back to the island around noon. Or if you making a day of it, going north, south, west or east, your cook can pack you a boxed lunch to take along.
BRL’s outpost will stock Belikin beer and One Barrel Rum. If you would like any other alcoholic beverages while on the island, please let us know and it can be purchased by the bottle.
Staying at BRL’s Outpost on Long Caye still allows you to fish all of Central Belize, the areas that Belize River Lodge has fished for over 50 years. This area is best known for “Grand Slams” or “Super Slams” in all of Belize. Tarpon and Snook fishing is on the back side of the island, about 5 minutes away. Some of the best Permit and Bonefish flats are out front and very close by. The Long Caye Channel and Miami Beach Flat are known for large Tarpon. Basically, all of the fishing is right in your front or back yard, while still offering all the variety that Belize River Lodge is known for.
Belize River Lodge has always offered options, and now, we have added one more! Combination packages are available from BRL’s main Lodge and the Outpost, which is seated in the heart of some of the best fishing in all of Belize!
