2014 Update

How did it get so late so soon? It’s night before it’s afternoon. December is here before it’s June. My goodness how the time has flewn.  How did it get so late so soon?  ~ Dr. Seuss

Dear Friends,

It seems that each year goes by faster than the year before.  2014 has arrived and we only have eleven months left to accomplish everything – goals, work, fishing, more work, vacation, work again, family time, everything that is important between the work and things that have to get done.

At the Lodge, we were lucky to visit with family and friends over the holidays.  Mike and I are both doing well and all of the BRL family are also doing well and geared up for 2014.  We all look forward to visiting with everyone in the upcoming year.

We have many guests returning and we always enjoy catching up with these friends.  We have many new guests booked and the nice thing about our job is that we get to meet many new people each year, so we always look forward to meeting everyone new.

We have a few weeks that are set aside for hosted groups as well as our week to benefit BTT and focus on saltwater species tagging.  Our 3rd Annual Tagging Challenge is scheduled for March 26 to April 2, 2014.  There are a few spaces left to enjoy great saltwater fishing and help to gather the needed scientific data to help protect Belize’s flats by spaghetti tagging bonefish and permit, dna testing tarpon and satellite tagging large tarpon – all in a day’s fishing.   Please contact us for more information.

If you are new to saltwater fishing or if you have wanted to try saltwater but not travel alone, joining a hosted trip can be an excellent way to experience Flats fishing.  You not only get the advice and help from the Lodge and BRL guides, but you get the experience of the host.  Your host and BRL is always willing to help to improve your saltwater trip.  Hosted trips in 2014 are

Gary Eblen from American Fly Fishing Company will be returning with a group in March.
Barry and Cathy Beck are returning in 2014 at the end of April for a hosted trip at the main Lodge.
John Irwin is returning for two weeks in April at Long Caye.

These are great people to travel with, who know the ropes of saltwater fishing.  If you would like more information, please let us know and we will be happy to put you in touch with them.

We are not always in touch, or up to date on fishing reports, as we are hosting our guests here at the Lodge.  Mike and I are “old school” and take quality time in showing each guest the best possible experience, so this does not leave much time in our day to chase the web awards and such.  But we want you to know that BRL is always open, with excellent opportunities for Bonefish, Tarpon, Snook & Permit, along with many other species.  Our specialty is variety of species in a variety of fishing areas.  If you have a non-fishing spouse, don’t worry, being on the mainland, we offer many eco-adventures tours inland which are easily accessible.  Being that we fish the Flats, most fishing days can be combined with snorkeling.  This is your vacation and we can customize it to what you would like to do, just let us know.  Mike and I are keeping focused on what we do best, which is to offer each guest a personalized vacation.

We look forward to visiting with you soon,
Warm regards,
Marguerite
