Altun Ha, “Rockstone Water“, is the nearest major Maya ruin from the Lodge. Altun Ha was a major trading center during the Classic Period and it was occupied from as early as B.C 900 to about A.D. 1000. Altun Ha is made up of two central plazas surrounded by temples. The famous jade head of the Mayan sun god, Kinich Ahau, was uncovered here. This site is a birder’s paradise.
