The Civilized Jungle Experience

Hello Friends,

We hope that you are all doing well since we saw you last. Mike and I are doing as well as we are; and with the help of our family and BRL crew, Belize River Lodge completed our 39th spring season under Mike and my ownership; while the Lodge completed 64 years of operation – both are lifetime spans of time.

We had a few staff changes this year, Stephanie retired and Karen is trying something new. While both are missed, we have now have Radiance and Anna in the kitchen and rooms; and Naigel helping me in the office, along with Debbie and Heather. All three have been great additions to our BRL family.

It is amazing how quickly time passes, and we realized that we have not sent out a newsletter in quite a while and wanted to correct that with our July 2025 newsletter. Hopefully, we will get back to our twice a year newsletter interspersed with fishing reports and hellos.

As you know, we are hands-on while guest visit the Lodge and our top priority, hence, the lag in newsletters and correspondence.

Over the last few years, we have achieved a few accomplishments that we would like to share. Belize River Lodge has been awarded:

  • 2023 LUXLife Best Fishing Lodge Accommodation Award
  • 2024 LUXLife Sustainable Fishing Lodge of the Year – Belize
  • 2024-2025 Global Awards Fishing Lodge of the Year

In 2024 “Poor Man’s Rest” by Michael Caranci was published, this is the story of Mike and Marguerite and their time before and leading up to their years at Belize River Lodge.

This past March 2025, during Women’s month, Marguerite was recognized this year by the BTB as one of the Outstanding Women within the tourism industry of Belize.

We know that we should send press releases and more, however, time gets away from us and you, our guests, take top priority on the day to day, so we wanted to share our accomplishments now.

Over the last few years, we have enjoyed a good mix of guest – long time BRL anglers and new to BRL guests;  Some people fished, others toured and some fished and toured. We also had quite a few groups enjoy their time, splitting the week, between the Lodge and our Long Caye Outpost. The variety of Belize River Lodge has always been and still is a huge draw to visitors.

We want to take this time, the lodge’s 64th spring season closure to thank you for your visits and for continuing to support Belize River Lodge. June 20, 2025 was the Summer Solstice. It is the day of the year where the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, the longest day of the year. It is a time to celebrate a new year, mid year. Just like the sun’s rays nurture the earth, allow this moment to nurture your soul, whether fishing or spending time with family or something that makes you happy. Take a deep breath and let the energy of the solstice fill you with positivity and strength.

We look forward to visiting with our summer and fall 2025 guest. Until we meet again,
Warm regards,
Marguerite
& her BRL Family

PS
The aerial photo of the Lodge shows how much jungle surrounds us, a lot. While convenient if we know you are visiting, we are still a long way away from Belize City, we are really a Civilized Jungle Lodge!
